Politico Story on Pledged Delegates Is Inaccurate

People have their dander up about this story from Politico that says that Hillary will fight for Obama's pledged delegates in the event neither candidate has obtained a sufficient number of delegates to receive the nomination.

A Clinton campaign spokesperson has said the story is false.

The campaign's official position is this:

We have not, are not and will not pursue the pledged delegates of Barack Obama. It's now time for the Obama campaign to be clear about their intentions.

Indeed.

Yes, thank goodness for Beltway Dem! (2.00 / 5)

Jeez, Beltway's a better journalist than most of the "reporters" on the cable channels! This is why I come to MyDD to read the REAL news. ;-)

Yes - DKos front pagers are trying to backtrack on their kneejerk reporting.
It appears Obamabots foremost goal is to smear.
Sad.

I believe that Hillary's Campaign is doing the backtracking here. Like "Ooops we didn't mean to tell the truth".

Re: Politico Story on Pledged Delegates (2.00 / 2)

Considering the dustup about the threats against super delegates that don't switch to Obama, made by his cronies, I wouldn't try to push this silly story much further.

Daily Kos is sort of a political romper room.  Adults don't have much to do with it any more.

Summarized. nicely (none / 0)

by 'pol' at MarcAmbinder's blog

Let's summarize:
  • Clinton staffer openly tells political reporter that the campaign is considering bribing pledged delegates.
  • Campaign later denies it, and accuses opponent of considering bribing pledged delegates.

Oh, please! (2.00 / 2)

Did you even read this diary? Hillary's campaign isn't "stealing" Obama's delegates. It's just media hype. Do you believe everything the corporate media "reports"?

Re: Oh, please! (none / 0)

When a MSM reporter gives a direct quote I tend to believe it. It kind of fits with the Hillary mind set of "what ever it takes....party be damned.".

Clinton targets pledged delegates

"I swear it is not happening now, but as we get closer to the convention, if it is a stalemate, everybody will be going after everybody's delegates," a senior Clinton official told me Monday afternoon. "All the rules will be going out the window."

This is the same MSM that has promoted Obama from the gitgo.

But who is the "senior staffer"? (2.00 / 1)

It's an anonymous quote from someone who very well may not have been speaking for the campaign. Oh yes, and we still don't even know who the "senior staffer" is. So why should I believe this rumor when the campaign has already debunked it?

Re: But who is the "senior staffer"? (2.00 / 1)

And there's not one reasonable person that would believe a "senior staffer" on any campaign would say something so stupid. You're right on all counts!!

Re: Oh, please! (2.00 / 3)

Oddly enough, the people that are vehemently defending and believing the MSM are the same people who trashed them when the MSM was kissing Bush's behind in the last two elections.  Odd how suddenly the  MSM is the trusted voice of the Democratic Party for some.

As IF a staffer would actually tell someone they are going to "bribe" a delegate.  Seriously... that sounds so unbelievably ridiculous if you really think about it.

I do believe that my candidate is not the one that has spent nearly a million dollars donating to super delegates in the run up to this election... that would be Obama.

the same one that (none / 0)

campaigned in Florida and said it wasn't his fault and won't confirm exactly how much of what he spent went to Florida, but who thinks Florida votes ought not be counted, cause even though he broke the pledge and put on tv ads he lost?   Would that be the same Obama?

Hey, did you read this whole diary? (2.00 / 2)

Hillary's campaign has said there's NO PLAN to "steal" Obama's delegates. End of story. And so long as Obama doesn't seek to "steal" Hillary's delegates, then all this adieu about nothing can end.

Re: Politico Story on Pledged Delegates (2.00 / 2)

Spounds to me like one of two things happened. Wither Politico has a rogue reporter (most likely), or the Clinton campaign has a rogue low level staffer.

Either way, there's no there there.

Bill Foster would agree, Barack Obama has coat tails.

Re: Politico Story on Pledged Delegates Is Inaccur (2.00 / 3)

The media needs to reassess their performance.  This is just plain stupid to report something that hasn't been verified.

Re: Politico Story on Pledged Delegates Is Inaccur (2.00 / 1)

Thanks for the post. Man, I am just stunned that Obama has such little regard for the party that he'll let the GOP and its media do this to the democratic party.

I wish people understood that the polls that showed Obama leading by 20 in NH, up in CA, NY, ahead in all matchups with McCain etc...these are manufactured stories in order to bolster Obama's candidacy. He is a freshman senator full of hope and rhetoric, and we are a nation facing the worst crises of this century. We're engaged in two wars, an economic depression, spiraling health care costs, a broken education system, college costs spiraling out of control, people are losing their homes, the planet is melting -- there's no way a freshman senator is elected as president at this time. VP, sure...but not president. But the GOP is doing everything it can to make Obama our nominee so that the choice is between McCain and Obama...think about it.

by seattlegonz on Tue Feb 19, 2008 at 01:47:25 PM EST

Lewis, Cantwell.... (2.00 / 1)

What about Obama's people trying to get John Lewis and Maria Cantwell and others to switch from HIllary to Obama? More evidence there. Also Obama has sent a lot more money to superdelegates than Hillary has.
